Looking for a high-energy activity that challenges your dog mentally and physically? Dog agility training at Perfect Pooches Dog Training & Grooming offers the perfect blend of speed, skill, and teamwork.

Whether you're looking to try something new for fun or prepare for formal competition, our agility classes provide a supportive space for dogs and handlers to learn, bond, and thrive together.

Located just minutes from Lethbridge, our private 3.3-acre property features a dedicated 10,000 sq. ft. outdoor agility field with real equipment and room to move — making it a favorite among handlers across Southern Alberta.

What Is Dog Agility?

Agility is a fast-paced dog sport where dogs navigate a series of obstacles — including jumps, tunnels, weave poles, and more — under the guidance of their handler. It’s completely off-leash, and success comes from teamwork, communication, and trust.

Agility offers:

  • Mental and physical stimulation for active dogs
  • Improved focus and impulse control
  • Stronger bond between dog and owner
  • A great way to burn energy and build confidence
  • Opportunities to earn competitive titles or just have fun!

Dogs must be in good health, well-socialized with other dogs, and have a foundation in basic obedience (sit, stay, recall, and leash manners).

Agility Class Options

Beginner Agility

A 6-week course designed to introduce you and your dog to the world of agility.

  • Focus on foundation skills like targeting, body awareness, and obstacle approach
  • Learn to work safely off-leash in a fenced area
  • Build communication between you and your dog
  • All obstacles are introduced in a low, safe format
  • Perfect for first-timers or young dogs (1+ year old)

Intermediate Agility

Also a 6-week course, this level builds on the basics and introduces more complexity.

  • Refine techniques for each obstacle
  • Begin running short sequences of obstacles
  • Improve timing, speed, and handler cues
  • Prep for fun matches or intro-level competitions

Dogs should have completed the beginner course or equivalent experience.

Frequently asked questions

  • Do I need to compete to join agility classes?

Not at all. Many of our students train purely for fun, focus, and exercise. Others go on to trial — it’s completely up to you.

  • Can I join with no agility experience?

Yes. Start with our Beginner Agility course. No prior sport training is needed, but your dog should have basic manners and social skills.

  • Are classes indoors or outdoors?

Agility classes take place in our outdoor fenced agility field, weather permitting. Please dress accordingly.

  • What do I bring to class?

    You’ll need:

    A flat collar or harness

    A standard leash

    Plenty of high-value treats

    Comfortable shoes for yourself

A toy or tug if your dog is toy-motivated
