We at Perfect Pooches and Seransil Standard Poodles speak from experience as to the benefits of feeding at least a 50% raw food diet. We have been feeding our dogs this way for over 13 years and have 4 generations of standard poodles having been raised on raw food. The benefits are:
Perfect Pooches is proud to distribute raw (ready to feed) dog food from the following companies: What is wrong with dry food?Since the introduction of dry dog food in the 1950's there has been a steady decline in pet health. One veterinarian by the name of Dr. Ian Billinghurst with a background in nutrition has offered some explanation and a solution. For the whole story , refer to his books "Give Your Dog a Bone" & "Grow Your Pups With Bones". Dr. Billinghurst focuses his beliefs in observing how dogs are in the wild. In the wild they had a variety of foods, meat, fish, fruits, and vegetables, but primarily dogs and cats are meat eaters. When they killed their prey they ate everything - bones, hair, & stomach contents. Sometimes they were satisfied for a few days and ate only some berries for a day or so. They would not have eaten plants, but they would have consumed vegetables and fruits in a partially digested form from the stomachs of the animals they ate. Now compare this to very high heats (500 degrees). First of all the majority of our commercial dog foods are based upon grains. Dogs & cats are not normally grain eaters. Why, because it is cheaper to produce. Second of all, what nutritional value was in the foods has been baked out. Adding the nutrients in afterward may be of some benefit, but do you know that out of that bag what is in your dog's dish actually has the nutritional additives? Most importantly, processed dog foods are designed to swell once water is added (usually once it is in the stomach). The dog's digestive system works on a mass of food sitting in the stomach. Bloat or torsion (flipping of the stomach) has become one of the primary killers of large dogs. Research has proven that prior to processed dog foods, dogs dying of torsion were relatively few (Perdue University study on Bloat). Finally, look at your dog's teeth. Tartar build up and gum disease and ultimately loss of teeth are major problems for today's dog and cats. This is due to high concentration of grains in today's dog foods. What is a better alternative? The better alternative is return your pet to a more natural way of eating, that of eating real food - the primary ingredient being meat. Poultry is the best in that it carries more nutrients than just beef or pork, but variety is the spice of life. Organ meats such as liver, kidney, and heart are crucial on an occasional basis. In addition dogs need vegetables and fruits, but served in a semi-digested format after being pureed in a food processor or blender. In addition, foods like yogurt, cottage cheese, whole eggs and best of all RAW MEATY BONES! Why bones?Bones have been the staple food for dogs for centuries. But in recent years most dogs rarely get a real raw bone. This is primarily due to the concern over splintering bones piercing dogs digestive tracts. The nutrients in bones are absolutely necessary to developing a healthy dog. Adding bone meal to dry dog food may help, but why not give a real bone. In addition to giving your dog some real nutrition, it helps develop strong muscles as they pull and tear the meat from the bones. The actual chewing of the bone cleans tartar from the teeth without need for human intervention. And best of all YOUR DOG WILL BE A HAPPY ANIMAL BUSY CHEWING BONES INSTEAD OF FINDING SOMETHING ELSE TO CHEW OR OCCUPY HIS TIME! The Greatest Benefit for Pet Owners!!The amount of feces will diminish to a very small amount simply because your dog and cat's bodies are using the food and not having to excrete the waste material. In addition there is very little smell. Cat owners will clean their cat's litter boxes less often. The fecal material breaks down easily into a powder and in time is reabsorbed back into the ground to use for future plant life. The Greatest Benefit for Dogs & Cats!!You will have a healthy, happy pet. A pet with a healthy immune system able to fight bacteria and infection. A pet with a shiny, healthy coat and for those animals who shed, the shedding is minimal if almost non-existent. A mentally and emotionally healthy pet. Your vet bills will decrease and your pets lives will be extended. What and how do I feed my pet?Initially it takes a little time to switch a pet from dry food to natural food. The natural food consists of ground meat and bone (the easiest is chicken and turkey) with pureed vegetables and fruits. Almost any vegetable and fruit can be used except for onions. Start the switch by adding a little of the natural food to the kibble and then as the dog develops a palate for the new food start reducing the kibble and increasing the natural food. Start introducing your pet to raw meaty bones and to raw chicken and turkey (bones too!). DO NOT FEED CHICKEN LEGS AND THIGHS AS THOSE BONES ARE TOO LARGE FOR DOGS TO CHEW WITHOUT SPLINTERING. TURKEY WINGS ARE OFTEN TOO BIG A BONE. Instead use necks and backs. These pieces have small bones that pets of most any size are able to chew up and eat. Add natural foods such as yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese, and whole eggs. Make sure that organ meats are included into your dog's diet on an occasional basis (not every day but at least once a week). Grains can be added to the diet as well, but should not replace meat. You may add some supplements such as Flax Seed Oil (or flax seeds ground in a coffee grinder), cod liver oil, vitamin C, vitamin E, kelp, alfalfa, etc. Puppies raised on a natural food diet will grow more slowly which is preferable. Puppies who appear to be growing too fast can have their diets modified to cut back on the protein and add more vegetables and fruit.
For an added benefit try making your own dog biscuits.
